Launched in 2014, the Barnett Brotherhood is one of Barnett’s premier crossbows and is marketed as being not only incredibly powerful, but well balanced and incredibly light, making it ideal as a crossbow for the archer on the move and requiring good usability. It combines the power and general specifications of much higher end products with the quality finish one expects from Barnett products, making it an incredibly desirable bow that you should consider if you are in the market for a compact and powerful crossbow. Full details in this Barnett Brotherhood review below.
THE STRING AND TRIGGER MECHANISM
The string that comes as per standard with the Barnett Brotherhood is excellent. It is a precision manufactured crosswire string that allows for a large amount of power to be generated through the frame of the bow with minimal slip. It combines Barnett’s patented fibres with excellent quality string for an incredibly reliable end product.
The trigger system that is shipped with the bow is also more than satisfactory. It comes with an Anti-Dry Fire Mechanism that means the bow cannot be fired unless properly cocked and the safety mechanism that comes as per standard is also of good quality. The trigger itself is a single injection moulded unit that feels solid to the touch, whilst being able to withstand the higher pressures exerted from this type of crossbow.
The draw weight for this crossbow is 160 pounds which is perfectly respectable and it also has a 13.5” power stroke ratio that is perfectly in line with other crossbows in the field. In terms of how quickly the crossbow actually fires, the IBS rating is at 350fps which is incredibly powerful for a crossbow of this size. For 50 yard targets there is a full penetration of the crossbow bolts and even at 100 yards, there is still ¾ penetration which makes the power ratio impressive.
THE RISER AND FRAME
The frame that accompanies the Barnett Brotherhood is incredibly satisfying and gives it a sleek, dynamic finish that is both light in terms of weight yet solid in terms of feel. The frame is composite in nature which attributes to these factors.
The riser that ships with the unit is magnesium and comes with a 7-8 inch Picatinny rail that makes it ideal for attaching a wide range of hunting accessories. It also comes with a finger guide that keeps fingers out of the firing mechanism which only benefits safety.
Keeping the fingers below the rail is incredibly important when you are approaching a crossbow and this is a feature readily incorporated into the Barnett Brotherhood. There are finger guides, which keep digits out of the firing mechanism of the bow and it also comes with a pass through fore-grip that also doubles up as a carrying handle when you are on the move. There are further finger reminders all over the bow for added safety.
The Barnett Brotherhood comes with an Anti Vibration Isolation (AVI) system that greatly increases stability and thus accuracy, as well as having benefits in terms of the noise that the crossbow produces. This is built into the limbs of the crossbow and according to users has been able to reduce the vibration and noise of the system by some 30%. It also aids greatly in terms of stability.
The scope that comes as per standard with the Barnett Brotherhood is also more than worthy of note. It has a 4×32 reticle scope that is not illuminated, but it comes with good light gathering capabilities that mean in daylight levels it is accurate and makes distance shooting incredibly easy.
In lower light levels, the scope is also satisfactory. There is good definition in the scope, with easy to read values and distance calculators that make accuracy over 50 yards impressive.
- The bow is incredibly light, making it ideal for hunters upon the move
- The unit is also incredibly accurate. This is in part due to the scope, but it is also attributable to the incredible stability of the unit and great firing power
- There is also a good amount of KE generated throughout the bow. This generates around 350fps which is an impressive fire rate for a unit of this size
- The unit is well manufactured and aesthetically pleasing
- Good scope in normal light levels
- The unit only comes with 3 bolts inside
- No illuminated scope, so the unit is not ideal for incredible accuracy at greater ranges in low light
- The cocking handle is also not up to scratch and makes priming the unit for firing difficult
The Barnett Brotherhood Crossbow is an excellent unit and is incredibly powerful at all ranges, making it more than ideal for the well equipped hunter looking for a crossbow that can match their demands. The scope has a good level of detail and the raw power that this Barnett crossbow is capable of creating is impressive, especially when one considers how compact the unit is on the whole. More crossbow bolts and a much more workable cocking handle would be much more desirable on the whole, but this is an incredibly well designed and powerful unit on the whole. I hope that you have found this Barnett Brotherhood Review helpful.
