For years Barnett has been manufacturing some of the best crossbows on the market. One of their top products is the Jackal crossbow. With the package of this crossbow a hunter gets everything he needs, including essential accessories. The crossbow features a lightweight structure, astounding power and accuracy. Jackal is a great option for those who are just getting into the archery sport and also for more experienced users. Take a closer look at its features in our Barnett Jackal crossbow review to see if it’s worth considering as your next crossbow.
Just like with the assembly of any other compound crossbow, it will take some time. If you are a novice user, it will probably take you about 20 minutes to have the unit set up and ready. If you are not new to compound crossbows, you might be able to do it in twice less time.
The crossbow comes with the instruction manual. All the assembly hardware you can find in the package of this product.
You start by attaching the quiver bracket to the bottom of the stock (all the screws are provided). Next, you insert the string and cables into the limbs. You can check how to do this in the picture-rich instruction booklet. Then push the riser into the stock. When it “clicks”, it is successfully attached to the stock. Afterwards, comes the installation of the foot stirrup. At the front of the crossbow there’s an opening, into which you need to insert the stirrup and secure it with screws. The final step requires mounting of the 3-red dot scope. You can adjust its distance to your eyes according to your preference. But usually it’s positioned around 3-4 inches to your eyes.
Accuracy of the Shot
The Jackal crossbow is very stable and is designed with excellent distribution of weight. So it’s very easy and comfortable to hold and aim, providing a highly accurate shot. This is probably one of the most accurate budget crossbows.
The trigger pull features 3.5 pounds of resistance. It’s perfect for preventing accidental firing and at the same just enough to push the trigger without struggle.
The scope is easy to sight and you can easily handle the crossbow from even a long distance.
As a beginner it might take you some time getting that high accuracy. Practice for some time and you’ll be able to get a shot on your target every time.
This is a surprisingly powerful crossbow. It will hit your target at around 315 fps. If you are shooting from point black range and use 400-grain arrows, this can produce around 85 ft. lbs. of kinetic energy. Bear in mind that from longer ranges the kinetic energy will drop off some.
The draw weight of Jackal is 150 pounds, which is enough to kill any game you come across and more than enough for target shooting.
The package of Barnett jackal crossbow comes with a premium red dot sight. Though named red, you can switch between red and green dots. There are also 5 brightness settings, so you can adjust it to the weather and light conditions of your surroundings.
Once sighted, it holds zero very well. You won’t need to constantly adjust the windage and elevation. The sight includes batteries. But just in case I would recommend having a spare one with you.
Overall, the sight comes with great optics and the adjustability is very convenient. You will be able to get great precision with the use of this red dot sight.
In the package of the Jackal crossbow come 3 20-inch carbon arrows. They are very durable and can take a beating without breaking or bending. One of the other their benefits is that they have screw-in field points instead of glued-in.
Barnett recommends using either 18 or 20 inch arrows for this model. However, I would recommend using the 20 inch ones, as they give better accuracy.
The arrows can be stored in the quiver, which can easily be detached from the stock.
The Barnett Jackal crossbow has a well though-out design. Barnett really put a lot into all the details and used high quality materials.
The grip features grooves that make the hold of the unit very comfortable. The fore-grip helps to keep the fingers out of the flight rail.
It has a quad limb design, which adds to its good look and also reduces air resistance allowing the limbs to accelerate faster.
The riser is made of aluminum, so it will last thousands of shots. The recoil is minimal, though the shots are a bit loud. Like in most other crossbows, Jackal also includes the anti-dry fire mechanism.
