One of the most established bows in the field, the Bear Grizzly Recurve is an excellent tool of choice for both the beginner and intermediate hunter. It comes with specifications that make it more than suitable for professional hunting, whilst also being easy enough to operate to make even the least experienced archer ascertain a good level of success with it. It is beautifully made, great to look at and, perhaps most importantly, performs exactly how you need it to. This Bear Grizzly Recurve review will help you decide if it would make the right bow for you.
A distinct, aesthetically pleasing design may not be the most desirable feature to a professional hunter but it certainly helps attract you to a bow in the first place. The Bear Grizzly Recurve quite simply looks majestic and in the hands of a professional archer is a thing of beauty to watch. The limbs of the bow have a glossy finish that fits right in with the overall styling of this piece of kit, and the shelf comes coated in natural bear fur that helps greatly in the preparation and firing of the bow.
The visual appeal of the unit also helps greatly with its usability, and this is where professional huntsmen will start to become more interested.
Bows that come in below the $500 mark typically suffer in one aspect and it is usually the quality of the string that comes attached. The Bear Grizzly suffers from no such issues. Not only is the standard string visually pleasing, suiting the overall scheme of the bow incredibly well, but the string also grips the arrows incredibly well and facilitates your accuracy greatly when you are out in the field. There is also minimal slip from the string when it is put under firing conditions, an incredibly desirable feature to have.
PERFORMANCE AND BOW ACCURACY
This is once again a field where the Bear Grizzly clearly rises above its competitors. Right off the bat, the actual weight of the bow is some mere 2 lbs, making it ideal for not only adults, but children as well and thus means it is incredibly manoeuvrable within the field. It also stands some 58” tall, which is relatively compact and makes the performance figures one can achieve even more impressive.
The draw weight can be changed from anywhere between 30-60lbs and means that, under IBS conditions speeds of well over 300lbs-ft can be easily achieved. This means that even with the expected drop of rate at range, at 50 yards there is still an 270fps rate that can be achieved, making the bow ideal for hunting a large variety of prey. For stationary targets of 50 yards, penetration of the arrow heads was consistent and impressive and even at 100 yards, accuracy and penetration was still well above average.
The accuracy of the bow, as alluded to is excellent. The Bear Grizzly Recurve bow comes with no sight as per standard, but this only adds to the challenge factor and given the bows general performance is not an arduous task at all. A grouping of less than 1” is not uncommon at a 50 yard range and this barely expands the greater the distance gets. The string and general reflex of the bow, combined with the excellent recurve factor only make accuracy better over distance.
The limbs of the bow are also excellent. Being coated means that their moisture gathering ability is virtually zero and this means that a good amount of KE can be stored in the limbs when the bow is drawn back. This only increases the velocity of the arrow and assures that you will hit your target with great force each and every time.
NOISE AND VIBRATIONS
Completely contradictory to its name, the Bear Grizzly is an excellent stealth bow and is thus suitable for all conditions you encounter. The noise generated when firing is virtually zero and the vibration feedback into your palm is also minimal, making it incredibly comfortable to fire on a regular basis. The limbs themselves also do not suffer from heavy vibration when firing, which is only an additional plus point.
- This is a seemingly simple, yet incredibly powerful reflex bow that has performance one would expect from a much more expensive model
- Incredibly satisfying draw cycle that is easy and encourages good posture
- Compact size, making it ideal for field based operations
- Excellent accuracy, even at 50 yards plus
- Beautifully designed and lovingly made
- The Bear Grizzly Recurve is somewhat expensive when you consider the relative simpleness of the package. By and large though, if you can afford to shell out the additional funds, it is recommended
The Bear Grizzly Recurve is an excellent performance bow which combines the power and punch of the very highest end models with the aesthetically pleasing design one easily comes to expect from Bear Archery products. It is easy to fire, highly manoeuvrable and also supports a wide range of arrow heads, only adding to its usability factor.
