The Wicked Ridge Warrior HL is an incredibly powerful crossbow that combines great accuracy with good usability thanks to a streamlined, compact yet incredibly effective design. This crossbow also has incredibly good range, making it ideal for hunting prey over greater distances than can be achieved with a conventional bow. Finally, the sight available with this model is also incredibly desirable and allows for incredibly close groupings of arrows from considerable distances. If you are looking for an effective crossbow, this may well be the model for you. Continue reading this Wicked Ridge Warrior HL review to know more about the available features.
Before the Wicked Ridge Warrior HL is ready to be fired some initial construction will have to occur. Thankfully, by and large this is an incredibly smooth process. Inserting the prod into the riser is the first key step, and from here the sight and quiver can be attached, making the crossbow essentially ready for firing. Whilst you will of course have to do some accuracy test and calibrations, the basic process is over in 5 minutes which is impressive.
ACCURACY AND RAW POWER
These are arguably two of the most important features of any crossbow model and it is an aspect that the Wicked Ridge Warrior HL excels in. Once the crossbow has been set-up and calibrated, users have experienced incredibly positive displays from the model. With good accuracy and consistency, the grouping of bolts has been incredibly small for 25 yard targets and even at 100 yards of range, the grouping was below 2” is diameter. The scopes lower line is impressive and allows for this incredible accuracy to occur.
In terms of the raw power of the unit, this was also impressive. The rate of penetration in particular is something of note. From the 25 to 40 yard range, there is a clean rate of penetration through targets and even at 100 yards, the bolts themselves would achieve a 75% penetration rate.
In terms of what this value is in pure numeric form, the bow itself is capable of producing around 84 lbs-ft of KE which means it is more than capable of penetrating a large variety of prey with ease. These are all figures achieved with 425-grain arrows at some 300 fps, and even with the 2lbs-ft KE generated drop off, you will still be able to hunt good sized prey from well over 50 yards out.
DRAW CYCLE OF THE BOW
To draw back the string of this particular model around 175 pounds of raw draw back weight will be required. Whilst this is a considerable amount, it can be made considerably easier with a rope draw back cocking device that will ensure an accurate draw and thus shooting ability every time.
An accurate scope that is incredibly legible and easy to fine tune is central to crossbow hunting and the Wicked Ridge Warrior HL duly complies. It is a 3x multi-line scope that does suffer from the integral issue that it has poor light gathering capabilities. In low light conditions, in all honesty the scope does not fare well and there is no illuminated reticle, making it incredibly difficult to fire off an accurate series of shots in tandem. In normal light conditions, this problem is very much alleviated but it is a factor you should be aware of when purchasing this product. The scope is also best at medium distance from around 50 yards onwards, but it is also more than acceptable at long range distances too.
The recommended bolts for this bow are carbon manufactured. The unit itself ships with aluminium bolts but under repeat testing they became cracked and unusable. Carbon bolts around 202 inches in length should more than suffice the bow.
One of the most notable features of the crossbow is the Dry Fire Mechanism that does not allow the bold to be fired unless it is properly lined up in the firing mechanism. It is incredibly effective and thus improves the usability of the bow immensely.
The trigger for the unit is also incredibly smooth and solid to the touch, requiring reasonable force in order for the bow to be fired.
- Incredible accuracy from a variety of ranges
- Smooth firing mechanism and trigger
- Impressive Dry Fire Mechanism that will not allow for any bolts to be fired unless you are properly set
- Ergonomic, elegant design
- The standard bolts are disappointing
- The site shipped with the bow in low light levels is essentially rendered useless
The Wicked Ridge Warrior HL is an impressive crossbow with excellent rates of fire and generated KE that make it incredibly useful for hunting a wide variety of prey. It combines an excellent, ergonomic and appealing design with impressive Dry Fire Technology that simply does not allow for the bow to be fired unless you are set and aimed for your prey. There are some integral issues with the bow that do limit it somewhat. Your own professional set of bolts is an absolute must and an improved scope would be a desirable feature on newer models. By and large though this is an impressive crossbow whose raw power capabilities will win over a large variety of customers. I hope in this Wicked Ridge Warrior HL Review you have the information to understand if it’s the right crossbow for you.
